All eyes were on the red carpet (and on Rihanna’s barely-there dress) during last night’s CFDA Fashion Awards. Hosted by film director and screenwriter John Waters, the annual event recognizes the outstanding contributions made to American fashion by individuals from all areas of the industry.
Nominated for Fashion Icon of the year, Rihanna stole the show in a see-through, Swarovski-covered (200,000 of them to be precise) dress designed by Adam Selman. To top it off, she paired it with a matching head wrap and pink fur stole perfectly embodying her fearless take on old-school glamour.
We’ve rounded up our favourite looks from last night…

The office is buzzing with talk of the stunning outfits seen at last night’s “Oscars of fashion”, the 2014 Met Gala!
This year, the themed gala honoured the great American couturier, Charles James, whose classically glamourous designs were popular from the ‘30s into the ‘70s. His show-stopping ball gowns were famous for their detailed draping and intricate structuring, seen on many fashion icons of the time.
Needless to say, the celebs did not disappoint! From detailed beading (all hail Queen Bey) to old-fashioned glamour (can we talk Leighton Meester?!) we’ve rounded up some of our favourite looks from last night’s red carpet…
Ashley Olsen in Chanel – no explanation needed. – Rebecca Kogon
Leighton Meester in Emilio Pucci. I love how she played up the metallic trend while also keeping it classy and refined. The deep necklace and high leg slit is so elegant! I love it!!! – Marni Zaretsky
Leighton Meester: glowing, golden 70s goddess! – Adrien Reynolds
Leighton Meester in Emilio Pucci – sophisticated and sexy, and had a delicate art deco texture – all which were a perfect blend for Charles James Met Gala subject of ‘Sensual distinction’. – Alison Petrie
Rihanna because I love the danger of underboob slippage and this: See Buzz Feed. Girl knows how to have fun!! – Bunmi Adeoye
Rihanna looked so fierce yet so glamourous! Love the edge. – Ashton Marcus
Emma Stone – because I love her! – Kristin Newbigging
Kendall Jenner – It looks great on her, she looks elegant and mature. I also love the necklace that she paired with it – Tessa O’Donoghue
Queen B. And well, because its Beyonce and she can do no wrong! – Martyna Macerollo
This past weekend Natasha and the NKPR team travelled to Winnipeg to celebrate The Juno Awards! To celebrate, TD – national sponsor of the JUNO Awards and presenting sponsor of the JUNO Fan Choice Award – hosted the “TD Music Green Room“, a lounge experience offering fans and talent an opportunity to mingle, sip on cocktails, have their photo snapped and enjoy music performances from both local and nationally recognized talent. It was an incredible two days spent with a group of inspirational and talented artists of all ages, styles and backgrounds!
Here’s an inside look at some of the amazing performances we got to enjoy!
Broadway Hip Hop Academy, recipients of a MusiCounts TD Community Grant, showcased their passion for music by performing original tracks “2 Plus 9” and “Believe” written by the group. It was inspiring to see how much musical potential each young person has and how MusiCounts with the support of TD has helped turn their dreams into a reality.
JUNO nominee, Florence K serenaded the audience with three beautiful songs, and proved to be both talented AND witty; her sense of humour energized and, entertained crowd.
Status 4 Inc.’s performance was both moving and endearing. The organization was also awarded a MusiCounts TD Community Grant and the group was so excited about having the opportunity to perform at the TD Music Green Room. They were also particularly taken with the photo booth at the green room and had fun taking snaps!
JRDN performed his JUNO Award-winning track “Can’t Choose” as part of an intimate acoustic set which was a definite highlight of the weekend and had the audience swooning.

It’s the moment the Toronto fashion scene has been waiting for…Day One of World MasterCard Fashion Week set the stage for an incredible 5 days of F/W ’14 runway shows! One thing is certain: Less is more for Fall ’14. From the ‘no-makeup’ look at Mikhael Kale to the subtle ombre essie nails worn on the LINE Knitwear runway, we were left in awe after both Day One shows. Fuchsia pink is BIG for fall, as seen in the beautiful oversized shapes at LINE Knitwear and abundance of brights on the Mikhael Kale runway. We’re sharing our favourite looks and beauty trends spotted at WMCFW…enjoy!
Grommets, bold prints, unique textures & bright hues made for a stunning runway show.
We loved the simplicity of Rita Remark’s essie manicures for the Mikhael Kale show…the Absolutely Shore shade worked perfectly with the designer’s collection.
LINE Knitwear’s collection wowed the crowd; the combination of luxurious fabrics, rich fuchsias and dynamic shapes channelled the epitome cozy chic!
Rita Remark reflected the ombre look woven throughout the collection with a subtle ombre nail. The essie ‘Bobbing for Baubles’ and ‘St. Tropez’ shades were a winning combo.
We loved the ethereal look at David Dixon; the lace, feminine fabrics and abundance of pearls created a unique, ‘Alternative Bride’ look!
Rita Remark nails it again with essie Blanc, Limo-Scene and Fiji that perfectly compliments the abundance of white on the runway.
That fur! We loved the contemporary Canadian collection..plaids, winter whites and cozy turtlenecks dominated the runway.
Such a classic look! Rita Remark opted for a winter-y, feminine nail to compliment Pink Tartan’s Canadian-Heritage inspired collection…we love that Vanity Fairest shade!
We can always count on Joe Fresh to showcase cool, edgy yet elegant looks. What’s so great about these pieces is their ability to showcase runway style at an affordable price.
The excitement over the Rudsak collection was palpable; the looks were edgy with the classic chic Rudsak touches – fur detailing, fantastic hats and signature leather pieces. One of the most memorable moments of the show was DJ/model Harley Viera-Newton closing the show!
Rita Remark chose to reflect the 20th Anniversary celebrations with essie’s Go for Gold polish. Paired with the classic Licorice, it complimented the collection perfectly.

We’re Cara Delevingne obsessed (let’s be honest…who isn’t?), so naturally we fell in love with Mulberry’s Spring Summer ’14 campaign starring the beautiful Cara and co-stars including a Parson’s Jack Russell, a Patterdale Terrier and a Great Dane, a pelican, two cockatoos, a tortoise and a pony. The campaign is incredibly cute and quintessentially British, shot by Tim Walker and art directed by Ronnie Cooke Newhouse of House and Holme.
NKPR got a behind the scenes look at the making of the campaign – in the words of Cara, “it’s the kind of girl you are I guess, you have the Mulberry-ness factor”. With regards to her love of Mulberry and the new collection, Cara says “it’s something about the heritage, but it’s still just really cool and unique and new.”
We couldn’t agree more.
