NK’s Holiday Gift Guide 2018

Posted on

The holiday season is a time for self-reflection, a time to think about what we’re grateful for and a time to get together with family and friends. Here are a few of my favourite things that would make great gifts for your loved ones… or to treat yourself with!

Links of London

Nothing is more thoughtful, I think, than a personalized gift. Links of London’s Sweetie Bracelet is beautiful on its own, but it can also be customized with diamond keepsake charms. Above is an idea of how I would customize my own Sweetie Bracelet, using my initials and my lucky number!

Hounds Vodka

If you know me, you know I live for the colour black, and what’s so cool about Hounds is the vodka is…black!  It’s perfect for that innovative mixologist in your life who loves creating unique and striking cocktails.  And I have to say it also looks great on a bar cart!

Available at the LCBO and La Saq

SPINCO

Spinning has become an important part of my life and weekly routine. For that 45 minutes on the SPINCO bike I’m able to disconnect from the world and work up an amazing sweat.  Grab a gift card for that special someone and book a class together, or buy yourself a package to get motivated for those New Year’s resolutions.  I’m also a fan of SPINCO’s workout gear, which you can pick out at one of their studios.

Thompson Toronto // Bloor-Yorkville

A sleepover or staycation at a beautiful hotel is always a good idea and The Thompson Toronto is the place to do it! On top of the amazing service, stunning lobby and rooftop with panoramic views of the city (perfect place for a cocktail), the hotel was voted #1 in Toronto on Condé Nast Traveler’s 2018 Reader’s Choice Awards and awarded Trip Advisor’s certificate of excellence.

Once you’re checked in, head up to Bloor-Yorkville for some of Toronto’s best shopping (Holt Renfrew is a must), a visit to the Royal Ontario Museum, indulge in float therapy at Rest Nest, have a magical selfie moment in front of the holiday lights on Cumberland Street, and grab a bite at neighbourhood staple Trattoria Nervosa.

South Hill Home

If you’re on the hunt for something one of a kind (and ready to invest) South Hill Home has you covered. From furniture and lighting, to accent pieces and board games (like this KIFU Paris chess set) their designer collections are incredibly curated and like no other.

DAVIDsTEA

When everyone else is bringing bottles of wine as host/hostess presents to holiday parties, why not bring a DAVIDsTEA gift box instead?  It’s a great idea for friends you know aren’t big drinkers.  The boxes include a variety of their delicious flavours and some even come with a portable tea press.

Swarovski

Some of the most iconic Christmas trees in the world shine bright with the help of Swarovski crystals, and this year the brand has three trees on display at Toronto’s Union Station.  Escape the cold and head inside for a festive outing with the fam, and if you’re looking for another thoughtful host/hostess gift, there’s the 2018 Swarovski Ornament.  It’s a beautiful keepsake to help commemorate the past year.

Flow x LCBO

This month the LCBO has partnered with my favourite water, Flow, to encourage people to drink responsibly! You’ll be able to pick up special co-branded Flow at different LCBO stores across Ontario over the last two weekends leading up to Christmas. You can also find it at Union Station on December 14th.  It’s a great reminder to include water in the mix when serving those festive cocktails at your holiday parties.

NK’s Toronto Winter City Guide

There are so many places in the city, you can get lost trying to decide where to go! I’ve curated a list of my favourite places to go- Whether you’re looking to eat, shop, or play, there is something for everyone this winter.

Where to… EAT

Ufficio |1214 Dundas St W.

One of the best places to stop if you’re looking for an amazing meal! I personally love their green beans and ricotta gnocchi. (Who doesn’t LOVE gnocchi??)

Bake Shoppe | 859 College St.

Some of my absolute favourite treats are from here! I’m currently on a sugar cleanse for January, but typically my kitchen is always stocked with something, whether its the Retro Flakies or Nutella Cookies- I’m obsessed!

Bar Centrale | 1095 Yonge St.

This is my go-to spot for brunch, just located downstairs in Terroni! I always tend to go back for Poached eggs on top of brioche.

Where to… SHOP

TNT Fashion | Yorkville Village, 87 Avenue Rd.

TNT has been a shopping staple of mine for years. They offer an amazing curation of brands and collections- you can’t go wrong! Visit their store in Bloor Yorkville to find the perfect items to add to your winter wardrobe.

South Hill Home | 146 Dupont St.

Making your home warm and inviting is so important in these cold dark months, and South Hill’s beautifully crafted furnishings definitely do the trick! Stop by and pick up a new piece to make your space feel fresh and happy this winter.

Square One Shopping Centre| 100 City Centre Dr, Mississauga

This may be outside of the downtown core, but Square One is one of my top shopping destinations! When you need a break from hunting for the best finds, stop by for a delicious eclair at Nugateau.

Where to… PLAY

Windsor Arms Hotel | 18 St Thomas St.
What better way to spend a chilly afternoon than at the spa, followed by high tea? Windsor Arms is a must for curing the winter blues!

Toronto Maple Leafs Game | Air Canada Centre, 40 Bay St.

Every now and then I love to catch a Leafs’ game with Anthony! Recently, this winter, I’ve really enjoyed going out and getting into the team spirit- it’s so much fun!

Thompson Toronto | 550 Wellington St W.

Get out of the cold and enjoy the Thompson! You can wet your palette at the bar then head on to their Screening Room for a movie!

The Launch of Cibo Wine Bar South Beach with Special Guest Mr. Brainwash

Posted on

On December 6th and 7th, Liberty Entertainment Group opened its third Cibo Wine Bar. Originally opening in Coral Gables, Miami, the success of the Toronto location inspired Liberty Entertainment Group decided to take Cibo to South Beach, where they purchased the last piece of property on the famous waterfront strip.

The Cibo Wine Bar South Beach  features the restaurant’s authentic Italian dishes and impeccable wine selection, however it is the aesthetics that make it stand out amongst its Toronto and Coral Gables counterparts. Cibo South Beach partnered with world-renowned street artist Mr. Brainwash, who has been the inspiration for the restaurants unique and stunning interior décor. Mr. Brainwash’s famous art installation titled “Life is Beautiful” is featured on a piece of exposed concrete inside the restaurant along with works of various other artists from the South Beach community.

Cibo Wine Bar South Beach features other notable Italian-influenced aesthetics that contribute to the restaurants unique and inviting atmosphere. Hanging 20 by 12 feet over the restaurant’s dining room is a beautiful custom-made chandelier featuring 3,000 glass spheres in red, white and green – Italy’s national colours. The restaurant also has a two-story glass enclosed wine cellar, standing 24 feet tall in the middle of the restaurant. The cellar holds over 3,000 bottles from around the world with hydraulic features to lift and collect bottles. Additionally, Cibo’s European style rooftop patio covers 6,000 square feet and gives guests an opportunity to enjoy the fresh, ocean air.

The restaurant opening took place during Art Basel, the world’s premier international art show for modern and contemporary works. An incredible opportunity for Cibo to be a part of celebrating of the arts, while showcasing the restaurants own artistic pieces and stunning visual aesthetics.
