2014 Met Gala – Our Top Picks!

Posted on

The office is buzzing with talk of the stunning outfits seen at last night’s “Oscars of fashion”, the 2014 Met Gala!

This year, the themed gala honoured the great American couturier, Charles James, whose classically glamourous designs were popular from the ‘30s into the ‘70s. His show-stopping ball gowns were famous for their detailed draping and intricate structuring, seen on many fashion icons of the time.

Needless to say, the celebs did not disappoint! From detailed beading (all hail Queen Bey) to old-fashioned glamour (can we talk Leighton Meester?!) we’ve rounded up some of our favourite looks from last night’s red carpet…

Ashley Olsen in Chanel – no explanation needed. – Rebecca Kogon

Leighton Meester in Emilio Pucci – sophisticated and sexy, and had a delicate art deco texture – all which were a perfect blend for Charles James Met Gala subject of ‘Sensual distinction’. – Alison Petrie

Behind the scenes: Mulberry’s Spring Summer ’14 Campaign

Posted on

We’re Cara Delevingne obsessed (let’s be honest…who isn’t?), so naturally we fell in love with Mulberry’s Spring Summer ’14 campaign starring the beautiful Cara and co-stars including a Parson’s Jack Russell, a Patterdale Terrier and a Great Dane, a pelican, two cockatoos, a tortoise and a pony. The campaign is incredibly cute and quintessentially British, shot by Tim Walker and art directed by Ronnie Cooke Newhouse of House and Holme.

NKPR got a behind the scenes look at the making of the campaign – in the words of Cara, “it’s the kind of girl you are I guess, you have the Mulberry-ness factor”. With regards to her love of Mulberry and the new collection, Cara says “it’s something about the heritage, but it’s still just really cool and unique and new.”

We couldn’t agree more.

This just in! Canadian actor Hayden Christensen is adding another creative project to his portfolio: designing menswear! Hayden has designed a Holiday 2013 collection with RW&CO, that which has already received lots of buzz on social media since the announcement this morning. The 20 piece collection – which includes sweaters, coats, pants, knitwear and accessories – has a young, modern look while taking inspiration from Hayden’s time growing up on a farm in Ontario. We can’t get enough of the relaxed, on-trend looks; suspenders, rich colours and patterns, elbow patches, contrasting lapel details… we’ve got a lot of pieces on our radar for holiday gifting, available November 7th! We’re really impressed by Hayden’s design capabilities; as a self-proclaimed appreciator of fashion and design, his passion is evident in the collection. RW&CO worked hand in hand with Hayden, who was fully integrated in every step of the design process – from colour and fabric selection to button detailing, it was a true collaboration encompassing Hayden’s personal style influence and RW&CO’s signature fashion, quality and comfort.

Here’s a preview of Hayden’s designs!

The 2013 Met Gala: Our Top Picks

Posted on

When we heard that the 2013 Met Gala would have a ‘punk’ theme, we were intrigued as to how the red carpet would approach such a bold, unique look. Suffice to say we were impressed by the diversity and unique take each celeb took with the grunge-inspired look. Some went all out (hello Madonna!) while others seemed to stray away from the theme (Anna Wintour with her florals, for example). Overall, it was a great night for fashion. Here are some of our favourite looks from the red carpet!

Stacy Keibler in Rachel Roy!!! Not being biased at all (maybe I am..) –Lisa

A Showdown in Chinadown

Posted on

Last week a few of the NKPR team jetted to NYC to join NBA athletes and custom menswear e-tailer Indochino for the ultimate sports and style showdown: a Showdown in Chinatown to be precise.

NBA athletes including Tony Parker, Marcin Gortat, Brandon Jennings and Steve Nash were suited up by Indochino for the 4th annual charity soccer match. The event benefits under-served children with medical support, education and personal development through the Steve Nash Foundation. But before the athletes hit the field, they connected one-on-one over ties and tape measures.

Aimed at sophisticated, stylish guys, event sponsor Indochino is the world’s first online provider of made-to-measure suits. Bloomberg Businessweek dubbed Indochino a start-up to watch.

And if there’s one thing the ladies on the NKPR team would watch a lot more of, it’s basketball – but only if the players are wearing stylish Indochino suits!
