Exploring Sustainability with The MICHELIN Guide and Porsche
In a recent trip to Northern California, NKPR President, Natasha Koifman, and Creative Director, Eric Hendrikx embarked on a remarkable adventure alongside Alexis Garcin, president and CEO of Michelin USA. The mission: to delve into Michelin’s sustainability strategy and its unwavering commitment to the environment. This unique experience took them to two renowned restaurants, SingleThread Farms and The Harbor House Inn, celebrated not only for their culinary excellence but also for their environmental stewardship. Alongside them for this voyage was Porsche‘s all-electric Taycan 4 Cross Turismo, equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, aligning perfectly with Michelin’s values on the road.
Did you know that Michelin’s journey traces back to the early 1900s in France when it was primarily known as a tire company? Back then, they offered a tourism guide to help travellers find top-notch hotels and restaurants. Over a century later, Michelin has transformed into one of the world’s largest tire manufacturers, and the Michelin Guide has earned its place as one of the most influential institutions in the global culinary scene.
Their expedition took them through stunning redwood forests and introduced them to the bounty of hyper-local seafood. They explored sustainable farms and savoured the delectable offerings of 2-Star and 3-Star Michelin restaurants, each adorned with the prestigious Green Star.
This voyage was an eye-opener, reinforcing the notion that safeguarding our planet requires the integration of sustainable practices into every facet of life. The farm-to-table concept epitomizes living in the present – what’s grown is what you eat, and they were fully immersed in this philosophy throughout the journey. This trip served as a vivid reminder that to protect our planet, we all must embrace sustainability wholeheartedly, embracing the ‘now’ with a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of all things.
As we continue down the road of progress, it’s evident that green stars like Michelin and innovative partners like Porsche are illuminating the path toward a brighter, more sustainable future.
