What does it mean to build a community? 🤔🏡 A deve What does it mean to build a community? 🤔🏡

A development may start with homes and infrastructure, but a true community is built through people, connection and a shared sense of belonging.

When @nkpr.inc first started working with @dbsdevelopments, the @BelaSquareApartments community was at a very different stage. 94 Eastdale Ave was newly leased, while 100 Eastdale was still under construction. Today, the new high-rise residences are leasing and more residents are becoming part of the community.

What I’ve always admired about #DBSDevelopments is that they understand building a community is about more than the buildings themselves. It also means investing in the neighbourhood and the people who make it what it is.

As Bela Square continued to evolve, we saw an opportunity to bring new and existing residents together while spotlighting the local businesses that help make the neighbourhood special. That idea became the inaugural DBS Summer Market at Secord Park—a place for people to connect and for local businesses to be seen, supported and celebrated. 🖤

We were also pleased to welcome @bradfordgrams, Toronto City Councillor for Ward 19, Beaches–East York, and a current candidate for Mayor of Toronto. He spent time experiencing the market and meeting the local businesses and residents who make the neighbourhood so special.

For me, the work doesn’t end when construction does. It continues by creating opportunities for people to connect, supporting the local businesses that make a neighbourhood special and investing in its future as it grows and evolves.

Because ultimately, the best developments don’t just change a skyline. They become part of the fabric of a neighbourhood. 🏙️🖤

It was such a privilege to speak with @deloittecan It was such a privilege to speak with @deloittecanada’s Women’s Impact Group, with hundreds joining online from around the world for a conversation about the power of showing up, leading with purpose and embracing every stage of your journey. The thoughtful questions and warm welcome made for such a meaningful afternoon.

Showing up has always been one of the guiding principles of my life. I even gave a TED Talk on the subject several years ago because I believe so deeply that the way we show up—for ourselves, for others and for the moments that matter—shapes the impact we have on the world.

To show up is to be 100 percent present. To listen, to care and to give your very best to whatever, and whoever, is in front of you. It means showing up for yourself, but equally, showing up for others. When we offer someone our full attention, our effort and our care, we make them feel seen, supported and valued. That kind of presence can strengthen a relationship, change an experience and, sometimes, change the direction of someone’s life.

A heartfelt thank you to @hannaheinhorn_ for bringing this conversation to life, and to @deloittecanada for the invitation and generous donation to @artistsforpeace, an organization very close to my heart that uses education as a catalyst for meaningful change in Haiti.

And to everyone who joined us, thank you for showing up and for being part of such a thoughtful and inspiring afternoon. 🖤🙏

To celebrate 25 years of @theforesthillgroup, founder @Robklopot and I answered some quick rapid fire questions about the journey that built the brand.

We covered everything from leadership lessons and defining moments to the power of trust, exceptional service, and what keeps him inspired after 25 years.

One month from today, we’ll gather for the 18th An One month from today, we’ll gather for the 18th Annual Artists for Peace and Justice Gala. 🖤🇭🇹

In this video, I wanted to share why this cause has meant so much to me for nearly two decades - and why, today, our work feels more important than ever.

The situation in Haiti is devastating. More than 1.4 million people have been displaced by violence. More than half the country is facing acute hunger. Children are being forced from their homes and their classrooms, and access to education - something every child should have a right to - has become even more precarious.

It can be easy to look at a crisis of this magnitude and wonder how any one of us can possibly make a difference.

But there is a quote I share in this video that has always stayed with me: “If you can help one person breathe easier, you’ve made a difference.”

That is what we try to do at @artistsforpeace

One student. One family. One opportunity at a time.
Because when you change the trajectory of one life, that impact doesn’t end with that one person. It reaches their family, their community and, ultimately, all of us.

Over the past 18 years, APJ has raised more than $36 million and helped provide education for more than 32,000 students in Haiti. And every person behind APJ - including our Board - is a volunteer. We give our time because we believe deeply that education creates possibility, and that looking away is never the answer.

I am incredibly grateful to every person who has stood beside us over these 18 years - our Board of Directors, sponsors, supporters and friends. You are the reason this work continues.

On September 13th, we’ll come together at the @windsorarms during TIFF not only to celebrate what we have accomplished, but to continue the work that still needs to be done.

When you help one person, you help everyone. đź–¤
