Saying no is a full sentence. But why does it feel Saying no is a full sentence. But why does it feel so hard to say? 👀🎙️

Episode 2 of @dontjusttalksaysomething is here, and this time, we’re talking about the art of saying no, the “no’s” we’ve regretted, and so much more with the fabulous @TheTaylorKaye

From setting boundaries and protecting your time to letting go of the need to please everyone, Taylor brings a refreshingly honest perspective to something we all struggle with from time to time.

And let’s be honest, how many times have you said “yes” when you really wanted to say “absolutely not”? 🙋‍♀️

Tune in for a conversation about boundaries, confidence, people-pleasing, the decisions we’ve second-guessed and why learning to say no might just be one of the most important things you can do for yourself.

We’ve never had more access to business advice. An We’ve never had more access to business advice. And I’m not sure that’s always a good thing.

I’ve spent nearly 25 years building NKPR, and along the way, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside hundreds of founders and some of the world’s most recognized brands. I’ve seen what can grow a business, what can derail one, and what simply creates noise.

And today, there is a LOT of noise.

Open Instagram for five minutes and someone will tell you exactly how you should be building your business, growing your career, leading your team or becoming more successful.

But how many of those voices have actually built or grown the thing they’re advising you about?

Before we allow all that noise to shape how we think, what we build or the decisions we make, I think there’s one very important question worth asking:

What have they actually built?

Because there’s a big difference between talking about building something and actually doing it.
That’s the idea behind this week’s substack, NK Confidential: The Most Dangerous Business Advice Is Free.

Experience matters. Judgment matters. And sometimes consuming more advice doesn’t make us better at what we do …it just makes it harder to hear our own instincts.

So, to accompany this week’s Substack, I’m sharing 5 podcasts + 5 books from people who have built companies, led teams, taken risks, made mistakes and learned by actually doing the work.

Why do I always wear black? 🖤 It’s the question I Why do I always wear black? 🖤

It’s the question I’m asked more than any other when it comes to fashion.

The answer is simple: I feel most like myself when I wear black. It’s confident, timeless and uncomplicated…and whether I’m walking into a meeting, an event or simply starting my day, I always feel my best in it.

For me, personal style is about knowing yourself and being unapologetic about what makes you feel good. In a world that can feel so distracting, I don’t want what I wear to add to the noise. Black gives me clarity, and allows me to focus my energy on everything else.

Happy #FashionFriday, friends! xx

For nearly 18 years, Artists for Peace and Justice For nearly 18 years, Artists for Peace and Justice has held a very special place in my heart.

I’ve seen what access to education can make possible in Haiti, and how profound the need remains. The circumstances facing the country today are dire, but APJ reminds us that hope lies in action and that we all have a responsibility to use whatever platform we have to make a difference.

On September 13, I’ll have the privilege of hosting the @artistsforpeace Gala alongside our Board of Directors at the @windsorarms Hotel during TIFF. To date, this gala has raised more than $36 million in support of education in Haiti.

This year, I’m especially proud that we’ll be honouring three remarkable women whose contributions to giving back and creating meaningful impact are deeply inspiring.

Andrea Martin will receive the Global Artists for Peace and Justice Award, recognizing her longstanding commitment to humanitarian causes and her dedication to creating positive change. 🖤

@EmilyHampshire will receive the Canadian Artists for Peace and Justice Changemaker Award for using her platform to speak openly about mental health and queer experiences, helping create greater understanding and awareness. And a special congratulations to Emily on being cast as Vanessa in Season 2 of @HeatedRivalryCrave!

@JannArden will receive the Artists for Peace and Justice Impact Award, celebrating decades of philanthropy, humanitarian work and giving back to communities in need.

Our Board members @kardinalo and @strombo will MC the evening, with special performances by @PaulBeaubrun and @olreid.

We honour incredible people like Andrea, Emily and Jann because their actions inspire others to act, creating a ripple effect far greater than any one of us could create alone.

That is what APJ is all about: inspiring action, honouring those who use their influence for good and reminding us what is possible when we choose to care. ✨🇭🇹
